CEO of VHCF presenting books to the two teachers |
This and other factors affect their quality of living and endanger the future generations to come. The children from these communities used to walk approximately 4 miles to Nalerigu daily, in order to access school. The little children cannot walk for such a distance and those who can even walk are sometimes being disturbed by rain or scotching sun, which can even make them sick. VHCF founder, Faruk Adam with a youth volunteer team then Victory Youth Club, haven visited the people during an HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign, discussed with them their challenges and conclusion was drawn that education is the key to the solutions of the numerous challenges characterized by these communities.
The Agape Child Care School was established in February, 2012 in order to take care of the educational needs of the children in these communities. Plans were that, funds should be solicited before starting the school, but one Madam Frances Smathers Cutshaw of North Carolina, USA encouraged Faruk Adam to lead his team to start the school, may be that will cause people to give towards these deprived children. We kept appealing for funds online but no avail until Sister Faith Davis of Maryland, USA haven monitored our progress for some time, pledged that she will take care of the allowances of the Volunteer Teachers; she has done a whole lot. She has other things to take care of and some times not able to meet all the needs we present before her, but we thank God for her life and thanking her for allowing God to use her as a vessel to be a blessing the kids.
Apart from the contribution from the Founder, Faruk Adam, Co-Founder Mamboriba Joseph and Faith Davis, there is no other source of funding. This is because, Voluntary Human Care Foundation have to go through some legal process in order to obtain the status of a Non-Profit Organization and sadly to say, this is being handle by the same individuals mentioned above even though we appreciate some other individuals who share's our vision and has been encouraging and praying for us always. We are not through yet, the Founder of VHCF believes that you cannot minister to the hungry without first of all meeting their basic needs, he related the vision of VHCF to that of Jesus Christ, who in His life on earth here always meet people at the point of their needs before then using it as a point to tell them about God.
Despite the various challenges that the organization is currently facing, a leading member of the Board of Directors of VHCF, name withheld, left his job to serve the children for a while, decided to buy some items to present to hardworking students and volunteers of the organization and the school. On the 16th September, 2013, the two communities were excited to be called upon to come and witness A Speech & Prize Giving Day.
The over all best student was presented with a school bag and exercise books, the second highest and third were also presented with books and pencils. Those who attend school always was also presented with exercise books. Snacks was distributed to all students of the Agape Child Care School. 5 Kilograms Rice each was presented to the two volunteer teachers. Mr. Ibrahim received the rice as a hard working teacher whiles his co-techer Mr. Alhassan received his as the longest serving volunteer of the school.
The rest of the day was used to engaged parents of the kids to discuss challenges facing their children and the school at large.
